Schedule Social Media Posts with Gemini
- One command installs the Postiz extension in Gemini CLI
- Draft, schedule and publish to 30+ platforms by asking
- Also works as a custom app in the Gemini web app
Postiz is the agentic social media scheduling platform that Gemini drives through the Postiz extension for Gemini CLI. Please make sure there is always a human in the loop. Last updated: September 2026. Using a different agent? See Claude Code, Codex, or the full agent list.
How do I connect Postiz to Gemini?
The Postiz extension is listed in the Gemini CLI extensions gallery. One install command adds both the Postiz skill and the hosted MCP server, and Gemini signs you in with OAuth on first use. No API key, no config files.
Run this in your shell
One command installs the Postiz skill and registers the hosted Postiz MCP server. Then start gemini.
gemini extensions install https://github.com/gitroomhq/postiz-agentNo API key needed. Gemini opens your browser to sign in to Postiz on the first call; run /mcp auth postiz to sign in again. Extension commands run in your shell, not inside the interactive CLI.
Prefer the Gemini web app? Add the as a custom connected app under Settings, then Connected Apps at gemini.google.com. The same link works with gemini mcp add --transport http postiz. Details on the Postiz MCP page.
Ask Gemini to post for you
Once installed, Gemini calls the Postiz tools. Posts publish at the scheduled time even after you close the terminal.
Schedule a post to X and LinkedIn for tomorrow at 9am announcing the v2 release. Attach ./assets/release.png
Uploaded release.png through the postiz CLI and scheduled 2 posts for 09:00 tomorrow: X and LinkedIn, both with the image. Want a Reddit post for r/SaaS too?

Also try
- 1Install Gemini CLI (Node.js 20+) and sign in with your Google account
- 2Run gemini extensions install in your shell, not inside the interactive CLI
- 3Start gemini, ask it to list your channels and approve the Postiz sign-in
- 4Optional: npm install -g postiz and postiz auth:login for uploads from disk
The same MCP link works in any MCP-capable assistant. See the Postiz MCP server page for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and others.
Gemini CLI extension vs Gemini app: what is the difference?
Both routes reach the same Postiz account through the same MCP server. The extension adds the Postiz skill on top, which is what lets Gemini upload files from your disk and run in scripts.
| Capability | Gemini CLI extension | Gemini web app (custom app) |
|---|---|---|
| Where you add it | Your terminal, with gemini extensions install | gemini.google.com, Settings > Connected Apps > Custom apps |
| What gets installed | The postiz skill plus the hosted Postiz MCP server | The Postiz MCP server only |
| Sign-in | OAuth in the browser on first use; /mcp auth postiz to repeat | OAuth on the Postiz approval page |
| List channels, platform rules, analytics | Yes | Yes |
| Draft, schedule, and publish posts | Yes | Yes |
| Generate images and videos, clip long videos | Yes, through the MCP tools | Yes, through the MCP tools |
| Attach local files from disk | Yes, the skill runs the postiz CLI to upload them | No, media has to come from a URL or a generation tool |
| Scripts, cron jobs, CI | Yes, run gemini in non-interactive mode with -p | No, chat only |
| Availability | Anywhere Gemini CLI runs | Personal Google Accounts, 18+, US, English; then also in the Gemini mobile app |
Recommendation: start with the extension. Use the custom connected app when you want to post from the Gemini mobile app.
What can Gemini do with Postiz?
Gemini can write, schedule, and publish posts for every channel connected to your Postiz account, create the media that goes with them, and do it all from the terminal you already work in.
One Command to Install
gemini extensions install adds the skill and the MCP server together. No JSON to edit, no API key to paste.
30+ Platforms
Post to X, LinkedIn, Reddit, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and more from one Gemini prompt. Platform rules are read from Postiz, not guessed.
Uploads from Disk
The bundled skill runs the postiz CLI, so Gemini can attach the screenshot or video sitting in your project folder to a post.
Plan & Schedule Ahead
Ask Gemini to plan a week of posts and pick the times. Postiz publishes them on schedule after you close the terminal.
Generate Images & Videos
Through the MCP tools Gemini can generate images and videos in Postiz, clip long videos into shorts, and attach them to posts in the same request.
Scripts and Cron Jobs
Run Gemini CLI non-interactively with -p from a cron job or CI step and let it schedule the day's posts while you sleep.
What is the Postiz extension for Gemini CLI?
Gemini CLI extensions package prompts, MCP servers, commands, and agent skills into one installable unit. The Postiz extension is the postiz-agent repository itself: it ships a gemini-extension.json that points Gemini at the hosted Postiz MCP server and a SKILL.md that teaches Gemini the posting workflow and the postiz CLI.
How Gemini Uses Postiz
Once the extension is installed, Gemini loads the Postiz tools at startup and calls them when you ask it to post.
- The extension registers the Postiz MCP server and the postiz skill
- Gemini signs you in to Postiz over OAuth on the first call
- It lists your connected channels and reads each platform's rules
- It composes posts in the right format, uploads media, and schedules them
- The skill falls back to the postiz CLI for files on your disk

What can I ask Gemini to post?
Anything you would ask a teammate. Name the channels, the timing, and the tone. Gemini reads the platform rules from Postiz and handles the rest.

Turn a changelog into a thread
Turn the changelog in CHANGELOG.md into a 4-part X thread and a LinkedIn post. Space them across this week.
Schedule the week from a file

Gemini CLI vs the Gemini app vs the Gemini API: which route do I need?
Google ships Gemini in several shapes. Postiz works with all of them, but the setup differs. Pick the one that matches where you type your prompts.
Gemini CLI (this page)
Google's open-source terminal agent. Install the Postiz extension from the gallery and post from the terminal, from scripts, or from cron jobs.
Gemini web and mobile app
The chat assistant at gemini.google.com. Add the Postiz MCP link as a custom connected app (see the connect section above) and post by chatting. Subject to Google's custom-app availability.
Gemini API in your own agent
Building your own agent on Gemini models? Give it the Postiz MCP link as a remote server, or call the Postiz public API directly. See the agent hub for both.
Using Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or another agent? See the Postiz Agent page for every supported agent.
Pricing, security, and troubleshooting
How much does it cost?
The extension has no separate charge. Postiz starts with a 7-day free trial, then plans run from $29 per month for 5 channels to $99 per month for 100 channels. Every plan includes AI video and clipping minutes, and AI images are included from the Team plan up.
How is access secured?
Gemini connects through OAuth: you sign in to Postiz in the browser and approve access. Tokens are stored by Gemini CLI locally, and no social media password or API key is placed in a prompt. Gemini only reaches the channels already connected in Postiz. Uninstall the extension to disconnect.
Something not working?
- No Postiz tools: run /extensions list, then /mcp list. Restart gemini after installing, since extensions load at startup.
- Sign-in errors: run /mcp auth postiz and finish the Postiz approval in the browser.
- Gemini can't attach a local file: install the CLI with npm install -g postiz and run postiz auth:login.
- Gemini can't see any channels: connect your social accounts in Postiz first, then ask again.
