I trawled the blogs a little today and there's a theory going around the never-trumper right that Vance is gearing up to push Trump out via the 25th Amendment's incapacitation clause.

Why? Well, firstly fireworks shows are fun to watch. More importantly? Infighting will consume time and resources.
Jeffries has already declared he won’t allow votes on Medicare for All or ICE abolition, and won’t be pursuing impeachment.
All of these things are popular ideas: James Talarico just won Texas with M4A as part of his message. 73% of Democrats support ICE abolition according to a recent YouGov poll.
When Jeffries was asked if he has talked to any of the socialist members of the caucus, with which he seems to be having a spat, his answer was effectively “no, I have 250 people to talk to, I talk to everybody”
So I guess he shut down all of those ideas before even saying hi.

My thoughts on what will happen with Trump going forward:
First, I think he’s going to go into rapid decline. His psyche cannot handle defeat of this magnitude. The last two days he’s just talked about the ballroom and the Oval Office trashy renovation. It seems like he’s retreated into his happy place (gaudy real estate). I will be surprised if he hasn’t been 25th’d by this time next year.
I can see the Republicans agreeing to remove him in order to avoid a 3rd impeachment. They don’t want Trump anymore, but don’t want to be seen as being disloyal to the party by voting against him, AND on the third hand, they know that voters hate Trump, and they could loose their next election if they DON’T vote him out. (So clearly they cannot choose the wine in front of them!)
So, I predict he will be removed.

I'm grateful that so many of my fellow citizens across the country came out to peacefully express their outrage with the kleptocracy. The 2026 midterms had one of the highest eligible-voter turnout rates in the last century (per https://theworlddata.com/midterm-election-voter-turnout-in-us/). Several "M" states top the list, with Maine, Minnesota and Michigan all over 63% (per https://election.lab.ufl.edu/2026-general-election-turnout/).
But personally, the most rewarding moment in the last week was a vaccine-hesitant parent who agreed to let me immunize her child (now 18 months old) against measles. Relationship-building works.

It might not be nefarious or bad. I mean, it's good to have the petition and I agree with voting against Jeffries. But I noticed this little detail at the bottom of the petition. This is not exactly the kind of grassroots citizen engagement that people might think at first blush.

This time the top three were Dem, DSA, and GOP.

A SynthID hit is more damning than a hit from most AI detectors, because SynthID doesn't apply heuristics, it looks for an explicit, invisible watermark various AI tools silently include in their output. The watermark data is spread across the output, to make it resilient to cropping, editing, up/downscaling, etc. So if that watermark is present, it's a pretty good sign the output was touched by one of those AI tools at some point

A few (perhaps under-reported) observations on the recent #elections here in the U.S. To set this up properly: I'm an independent #leftist, former Green operative, would probably be considered moderately left in western Europe. I'm to the left of most people here and I'm in a safe-blue area. These aren't in any particular order, I don't think. Obviously #USpol applies.1. Well, that was a belt-to-ass, wunnit? It was obvious that the Dems would pick up ground, but I was a bit surprised how much. Suffice to say people here really fucking hate the GOP/fash which drove a lot of otherwise apathetic Dem rank & file to the polls. Interesting though how many people actually voted for Trump and then flipped to vote for Dems...I don't know that percentage, but it's still somewhat significant. (This cohort of voters is best described as "complete idiots".)
2. Most American voters - and I suspect a large percentage of voters anywhere - believe they are in an episode of Survivor and are just voting the bad guys off the island. There is no real appetite for what the Democrats were offering; they were just the "other".
3. Accordingly, I don't expect anything too significant from the Dems in terms of actual legislation or even ideas. Republicans come in swinging fascist crowbars; Dems come in and make spreadsheets. The corporate scum layer was actually pretty happy with this result, as it means things will stabilize for a while and sales will go up. And blue is as easy to buy for them as red, so no problems for them there.
4. There are a *few* more actual progressives in place, which is cause for *very* *guarded* optimism. The main opposition to these progressives will come from within the Dems...possibly from some others who were elected. Ultimately, these are the Democrats. They're not gonna save you.
5. The overall direction remains downward. The current fascisti created more or less permanent damage, and many of the Dem suits that got in are still from the Nazi outback states and already doing the "look forward" canard to avoid the tough business of pulling back on the yoke. Voting for harm reduction still means voting for more harm, but voters are just too stupid to realize that.
6. There is no reason for other countries to change their strategies with regard to the U.S. Continue to divest and distance and develop local infrastructure solutions. China is another option but they can be quite problematic as well, for different reasons. Interconnected webs of support seem to be the best way to go.
7. The best strategy domestically is probably to emphasize local primacy and de-emphasize federal solutions. Push significant changes at the state or county level where you have majorities; continue to create interstate and regional compacts with specific portfolios (legal, public health, etc.) Heck, encourage red states to do the same. Quite frankly, if we could just rope a few of the big boxy states, tell people we aren't collecting taxes or enforcing gun laws there, much of the problem would likely sort itself out naturally. The next fash can rule the Federal Reservation of Dumbfuckistan while we rejoin the 21st Century. A man can dream.
Anyway, enough blather from me. Maybe more later.
