My first @fosdem talk was about how Heartbleed was actually good for the OpenSSL Community. fosdem.org/2026/schedule/…

Incredibly noticeable for individual projects. For instance, here's the graph for OpenSSL CVEs. 2014 was Heartbleed, so that prompted a lot of scrutiny. 2026 was LLMs and this graph doesn't show the increase in reports, which require human review.

the number of CVEs (vulnerabilities) published per month is growing at an exponential rate.

Teams that outscore their opponents are not undefeated if you go back into history far enough: sabr.org/gamesproj/game…

I saw sea turtles laying eggs on an island off the coast of Western Australia. Amazing creatures and I hope our beaches can host nesting in the future.

More side effects of warmer seas: A sea turtle (or 2?) laid eggs in Seal Beach & Huntington Beach. First time any have been seen or known nesting here. (Those tire tracks on the beach are so SoCal!) Eggs now fenced off, but I vote in-person volunteer guardians 'til they hatch.
