Yes. WHOIS Wolf is free and has no paid plans. Lookups need no account. Signing in with Google (also free) adds 75,000 lookups a month, bulk lookups of 100 domains, a year of lookup history, 250 favorites, a domain watchlist re-checked daily, CSV/JSON export and 3 API keys.
Enter any domain name into WHOIS Wolf and click Lookup. We query the domain's registrar and RDAP/WHOIS records to return the registrant details (where public), organization, registrar, registration and expiration dates, name servers, and domain status codes.
When WHOIS privacy or GDPR redaction is active, the registrant's name and email are hidden, but you can still see the registrar, creation and expiration dates, name servers, and status codes. Historical WHOIS records and reverse WHOIS lookups sometimes reveal owners of domains registered before privacy was enabled. See our guides on who owns a domain and WHOIS privacy for details.
WHOIS is a query and response protocol used to look up information about domain name registrations. It provides details about who owns a domain, when it was registered, when it expires, and which name servers it uses. Read our full guide to WHOIS.
RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) is the modern replacement for WHOIS. ICANN began sunsetting the legacy WHOIS protocol in January 2025, and RDAP is now the authoritative source for gTLD registration data. RDAP returns structured, machine-readable results with standardized fields. WHOIS Wolf queries RDAP wherever the registry offers it. For the few TLDs with no RDAP service it can only confirm that the domain resolves in DNS, so registrar and date fields may be empty.
Run a lookup and check the creation date field, which shows when the domain was first registered. WHOIS Wolf calculates the domain age from that date. Domain age is a useful trust and due-diligence signal when evaluating a website, buying an expiring domain, or researching a brand. See our domain age checker guide for how to read it.
Many domain owners use privacy protection services (like WHOIS Privacy or Domain Privacy) to hide their personal contact information, and most gTLD registrant data has been redacted since GDPR took effect in 2018. This is a legitimate privacy practice that protects registrants from spam and unwanted contact.
Domain status codes (EPP codes) indicate the current state of a domain. Common statuses include "clientTransferProhibited" (transfer locked), "clientDeleteProhibited" (deletion locked), "redemptionPeriod" (recently expired), and "ok" or "active" (functioning normally). See our domain status codes guide for a full reference.
WHOIS and RDAP data comes directly from domain registrars and is generally accurate at the time of query. However, information may be outdated if the registrant hasn't updated their details, or redacted for privacy reasons under GDPR and similar regulations.
WHOIS Wolf is a fast, free, ad-light lookup that combines RDAP and WHOIS data with domain age, status-code explanations, favorites, monitoring, and export. Unlike ICANN Lookup it adds bulk lookups and a REST API, and unlike DomainTools the core lookup is free with no account required. It also links to sister tools DNS Dingo (DNS lookups) and IP Impala (IP lookups) for full domain research.
No account is required for WHOIS lookups. WHOIS Wolf only queries public registration data over HTTPS and never asks for anything about the domains you research. An optional free account saves your lookup history, favorites and watchlist across devices and gives you API keys.
Add the domain to your watchlist with the Monitor button (free account). WHOIS Wolf re-checks every watched domain once a day and marks any change to its registrar, expiry date, name servers or status codes in your Monitoring tab, and the Dashboard tab counts down the days to each saved domain's expiry. Email alerts are not available yet. If you want an email when a website goes down, a free Status Tiger account does that.
Yes. If our WHOIS lookup returns no registration data, the domain may be available for registration. We recommend verifying availability directly with a domain registrar before attempting to purchase.
