bUm
Raum für
solidarisches Miteinander

Save the date! We're back, with another evening of animated shorts out of Palestine, joined by a live Q&A with Haneen Koraz (@animator_haneen).
This event is a fundraiser, sliding scale donation accepted at the door. No one will be turned away.
Join us for an evening of animated shorts out of Palestine. In the first half of the evening, we will be screening a collection of animated shorts made by women and children in Haneen Koraz’s workshops. After a conversation with Haneen, the second half of the evening will showcase animated shorts by filmmakers from Palestine and in the diaspora.
This event is a fundraiser for Haneen Koraz's animation workshops across the Gaza strip. Haneen Koraz is a stop motion educator and trainer who is an internally displaced person lived at the refugee camp in Deir al-Balah. Haneen is an experienced stop motion filmmaker who has collaborated with various arts and culture associations working in Gaza (among them Theatre Day Productions; she is a recipient of Cooperation Award for Excellence in Cultural Sector 2022 of the Taawon Welfare Association). Her efforts especially focused on empowerment of women and young girls with hearing impairments. In the camp, Haneen and her team (Nour Jawad and Shorook Darwish) lead animation workshops for adults and children to help them cope with the horrors they have experienced.
This event has been supported through the warm comraderie of Haneen herself, and the wonderful people internationally coordinating the Animation Community for Palestine (@ac4pal), who remain in direct contact with the Haneen and her team in Gaza, and have strenuously collected and archived Palestinian animation filmographies.
This event is a satellite series with Palinale Festival in Berlin, a film and workshop festival founded in 2024 by activists and volunteers, dedicated to showcasing decolonial narratives and realities from the Global South. For more information on Palinale, please visit the instagram @palinale.festival.

What would it mean to imagine and decide on our collective future in today’s times?
bUm and its community invites anyone with bold ideas, whether activists and the curious, workers and creators, or people otherwise looking to create a community of change, to participate in a festival of pushing the boundaries of the possible, in ways both real-world tested and experimental.
Together, we will explore social, political and economic perspectives on various future scenarios. We will counterpose this with imagined futures that question dominant narratives which have led to massive inequalities and injustice, so as to develop contrasting narratives. Futures that creatively find ways to reproduce the interlinked life of humans and other species for this and future generations. Futures that challenge the hyperconcentration of wealth in a few hands at the cost of our lives and the environment. Futures that question and redefine what we mean by growth and development.
