    逆引きマニュアルというと、通常は書式指定出力、日付計算、ファイルIOといった内容が

    定番であるが、「Ruby 逆引きレシピ」ではそのレベルの内容は載っていない。

    この本は、もう少し先へ進んだ読者を想定して書かれており、Ruby1.9の文字エンコード

    の扱い、Office文書操作、LDAP連携、スクレイピング、memcached利用、といった実務上

    しばしば直面するテーマが満載されている。

    プログラミング言語をある程度マスターした人であれば、情報はネットで調べれば十分で、

    自分にはもう解説書は不要だと思っているかもしれない。しかし、この本があれば、

    シンプルで洗練された完動品のサンプルソースと簡潔な説明に最速でアクセスできる。

    初学者にとってもRubyのポテンシャルの大きさを知るのに役立つ内容ではあるが、むしろ

    思考の中断を最小限にしたい開発現場のエンジニアが手元においておくべき一冊だ。

    rubyの可能性に気づかせてくれる

    Rails以外のrubyでも十分使えるし、なぜRailsがRubyで書かれているか納得する．

    とりあえず第一章がマニュアルの引き方って言うあたりがさらに好感が持てる

    惜しいのは、ちょっと情報が古くなってる点．

    改訂版欲しいです．

    全て会社にありますが、最初のレシピ本としては【Rubyレシピブック 第3版 303の技】、リファレンスとしては、【Ruby逆引きハンドブック】をおすすめします。

    他の本に比べ、レビュー数が９個で、どれも星５つ、しかもどのレビューも熱狂的にすすめているので、本書をあらためて見直してみましたが、理由がわかりません。

    （「・・・」書き方のレビューの人が多いけど、まさか同じ人ではないですよね？違ってたらすみません）

    本当は星４つか５つ付けたかったけど、今後のRuby業界のために、他の本も検討して欲しいので、星１つにしました。

    「Rubyの文法を一通り覚えた」状態から「Rubyで望む処理を実現するプログラムを書ける」状態までステップアップしようと思ったときに、本書はとても心強い味方になってくれます。

    書名の通りに「日常の困った場面」で参照する逆引き本として役に立つのはもちろんのこと、ざっと目次を眺めておくと「こんな使い方もあるな」と気付かされることも多々あります。

    レシピに添えられたコラムも充実しており、単純にRubyのソースコードの話題に終始せず、RubyやRuby界隈、プログラミング全般に関する知識や考え方も合わせて教えてくれる「先輩」のような存在です。

    プログラマの皆さんには馴染み深いものですが、通常テクニカルリファレンスは「手段」から「結果」を参照するのに対し、「逆引き」とは「結果」から「手段」を参照するものです。つまり「やりたいこと」から「やる方法」を探すということですね。

    この「Ruby逆引きレシピ」は、上記の通り、Rubyにおける逆引き本です。ただし、ただ逆引きのリファレンスとだけ使う本ではありません。「はじめに」に書いてあるとおり、様々な「やる方法」を知ることで「Rubyらしい考え方、Rubyの哲学」を身につけることを1つの目的としています。僕はまだまだ勉強中なので、そのような考え方・哲学を身につけられているとは思いませんが、この本を読むたびに新しい考え方、新しい着眼点に気づき、改めて [Rubyの/プログラムの]面白さを感じています。また、既に知っているライブラリやコマンドでも、新しい気づきがあったり更に深く調べるきっかけになったりします。ぜひ通して読むことをお奨めします。

    この本は、やりたいことをRubyでどうやるの?という形で参照するレシピブックです。Rubyの自体の機能だけでなく、他のライブラリも使用しており、どのようにやるのかがとても参考になります。また、5名の著者によっての共作ですので、いろんな分野のことが幅広くカ バーされているのも特徴です。普通に読んでもおもしろい本ですが、手元に1冊おいておくだけでもとても重宝します。
